Meteorfall: Krumit's Tale

Roguelike · Deckbuilder ★★★★★ 4.8 · Eric Farraro

If we could shelve only one title, it would be this one. Krumit's Tale sits a puzzle-like grid on top of a card-battler: you clear a shop-shelf of monsters, gear and potions one row at a time, and every purchase turns the fight. Runs are short, sharp and viciously replayable — the kind of "one more" you carry onto the last bus home.

Who curates the shelf

A small crew with a good eye

Gravel & Thistle Cove started around a real campfire on the Muskoka lakes — a handful of friends swapping the tiny mobile games we'd found on long portages and longer bus rides. The mega-hits get all the attention; we wanted a calm room for the good stuff nobody talks about.

"Found Meteorfall through this list on a rainy long weekend. Two hundred runs later I'm still on the shelf. Best hidden-gem call I've taken all year."

"Void Tyrant is my new commute game. Blackjack combat sounds daft on paper and then you can't put it down. Thanks for the pointer, crew."

Frequently asked

01What counts as a "hidden gem" here?

Real, published Android games in roughly the 1,000–100,000 install range — small enough to fly under the radar, good enough to deserve a place on the shelf. No billion-download mega-hits, no shovelware. Every title is hand-checked before it makes the collection.

02Do the game links download anything?

No. Every "Google Play" button opens the game's own listing on the official Play Store in a new tab. We never host, mirror or repackage APKs — you install straight from Google, same as always.

03Are you paid to feature these games?

No sponsorships and no affiliate cut on any title shown here. The shelf is curated purely on merit by the crew. If that ever changes, we'll label it plainly right on the card.

04How do you pick the eight titles?

We play them. Each season we shortlist small indie roguelikes, RPGs and survival games, install them ourselves, and keep only the ones that are genuinely worth your evening. Ratings and install counts are read from the public Play listing at the time of writing.

05Why join the notification list?

When we add a new title or refresh the collection, subscribers get a short browser heads-up — nothing else. You choose exactly what alerts you receive in your browser, and you can unsubscribe in one tap whenever you like.

06Which regions do the listings target?

We're based in Bracebridge, Ontario, and write for Canadian players, but every game links to Google Play and is available in most regions. Pricing, availability and ratings may differ by country — always check your local listing.
